This is the fourth and final (for now) episode of Try This, a show where Gary and Kole impose media on each other. Each episode has two sides, each dedicated to a different work.
In part one, Gary has Kole check out the album Dragonslayer by the indie band Sunset Rubdown. The album is grand, sweeping, and completely personal... and each song takes multiple twists and turns, changing compositions as it jerks through unpredictable gradients. It's really, really good. Check out this video for the song "Dragon's Lair".
In the back half, Kole has Gary look into Achewood , a long-running webcomic by Chris Onstad. It began as dark gag-a-day comic about some stuffed animals, but quickly expanded and became more surreal as it focused on two cats: Raymond Smuckles and C. "Roast Beef" Kazenzakis. Probably best known for its distinct voices and dialogue and sparse art, and for mixing high and low language in really evocative ways. For the show, Gary read the following arcs:
